Food Revolution Day 2013 – Let’s Eat!

Let me begin by saying that I am not a great cook, in our house my other half very much takes control of the food. He loves to cook and is, thankfully for me and one of the reasons I am marrying him, very good at it! It’s important for me as  I LOVE to eat! I appreciate all food be it healthy fresh vegetables or a home-made Victoria Sponge, and my biggest problem is controlling my greed!

Although not being a good cook myself, I understand the importance of healthy food and now as a mother, the importance of children eating well, right from the start. We make a big effort with Baby B’s food. We aren’t over the top or strict, but like to ensure he is getting all the right food groups in his diet and that he enjoys he fruit and veg. So far that is going well, though I appreciate that could change at any point with a toddler!!!

Lets do this!

Lets do this!

This food related post has been inspired by Jamie Oliver because today is his Food Revolution day! A father of four himself, an amazing chef and someone who is genuinely passionate about all things food, there is no better advocate for food education. Food Revolution day is a global day of action for people to make a stand for good food and essential cooking skills. The day aims to raise awareness about the importance of good food and better food education for everyone by focusing on three simple actions – cook it, share it, live it.

All money raised from actions today go to Jamie Oliver’s three charities based in the UK and US, working with Australia. 100% of the money goes into food education projects, educating our children on the importance of food and giving them that little bit of knowledge that can help them lead a healthier life and hopefully, in the future enjoy food and cooking that little bit more. More information can be on ‘where the funds go’ part of the Food Revolution website.

As parents we can play a huge role in how our children view food, enjoy food and value good healthy food. It doesn’t have to be expensive or even time-consuming, the better educated you are, the easier it is. I for one could do with a lesson or two and it is something I plan to become more involved in as Baby B gets older.

To show our support for the cause, in line with the very healthy breakfast we had this morning, we have designed our own little campaign image from Baby B’s beloved cars. If you put together an image and post as a photo with the hashtag #FRD2013 then Jamie Oliver’s team will collect them all up and post them.
