Cutting your child’s hair – with the kitchen scissors

Is this common place? Everyone does this, right?

Well we did. Whilst he was asleep on a Sunday afternoon.

Hindsight is wonderful thing isn’t it.

As neither of us have any hairdressing experience, nor did we have a pair of specialist scissors for the job, perhaps, just perhaps we shouldn’t have attempted to cut this…….

Hair

I think honestly that even the most highly skilled hairdresser would have to approach this mop of frizz with some serious caution.

But never ones to turn down a challenge and with neither of us willing to pin him down screaming in a barbers chair, we figured, how hard can it be. So when he nodded off on Sunday into a deep, you can carry me and move me without stirring, sleep we seized our opportunity.

There was beautiful blonde hair all over the place. There was little method to the approach, although I did try to do that thing hairdressers do with a comb, when you pull it up high and sort of feather cut the hair.

When we felt that we had done enough (damage) we took a step back to assess the situation. After I had got over the initial shock and maybe shed a few tears whilst clutching the envelope with his precious blonde locks in, we decided it’s not actually that bad.

Shorter Hair

Sadly, it does seem to have resulted in his hair appearing to have a tad more volume then before, guess it’s lost some of the weight?!

Well you live and learn. I think though that next time we will leave it to the pros.
